Our story

Kinetic Catamarans was founded in 2018 and has rapidly established itself as a creator of extraordinary, quality catamarans. A US company with its yard based in Knysna South Africa, Kinetic is a joint venture between Bob Hayward; a successful US real estate developer, co-founder of Summit Entertainment and farmer, and Leon Scheepers; a highly revered South African boatbuilder with vast experience and knowledge in multihull production. Both are keen sailors and passionate about the boating industry, as well as committed to improving it.

Our vision

Kinetic was established with the focus of building luxury performance cruising catamarans of the highest quality, a goal that was achieved in 2021 when the KC54 was awarded the following awards just months after her maiden launch - Cruising World Magazine’s Boat of the Year in the Judges Special Recognition category, and Best Large Multihull - 50ft and above by SAIL Magazine.

Our philosophy

Time on the water is precious and needs to be enjoyed.

We embrace the weight savings and strength of all-carbon construction to provide exciting catamarans for enjoyable sailing, racing, and comfortable worldwide cruising.

Our boats have performance carbon rigs and sail plans yet are set up for short-handed sailing. Only leading equipment, suppliers, and technology partners are used. Attention to detail is ingrained and after-sales support is key. We reduce the complexities of owning boats of this sophistication through quality, reliability, and support, allowing you to enjoy trouble-free time on the water.

Our design

Kinetic Catamarans are designed by Simonis Voogd Design BV, a highly experienced and innovative yacht design firm based in the Netherlands. 

Our partners

To increase reliability we use only the leading equipment, suppliers, and technology partners and place immense emphasis on attention to detail as well as after-sales support.

Cay Electronics (USA, Tortola) are designing our systems, sourcing equipment, and components, supervising installation and commissioning, and providing after-sales support. Rigging Projects (USA, UK, Palma) are providing the specifications and layout for each rig and longeron, signing off their build before they leave the manufacturer, supervising their installation, and providing after-sales support. Each of our steering control systems is designed and provided by Jefa Steering (Denmark). Masts are by Marstrom and a suite of North’s 3Di sail comes standard.
