Kinetic Catamarans partners with Offshore Spars on KC54
We’re excited to be working with Offshore Spars on Kinetics new furling booms. Can you give us a bit of background on Offshore Spars and your experience with performance catamarans?
Offshore was founded in 1976 and has been building carbon spars since 1992 after working with America cubed on developing a process for male molding spars. We have a built a few dozen catamaran spars over the years, but in terms of modern-day high-performance catamarans, the most recent projects have been a Gunboat 62, Gunboat 58, Atlantic 72 and we currently have a second Atlantic 72 in build.
What are you most excited about working with the Kinetic team?
Kinetic is an exciting new company with a great vision and product! I first learned about the company a little over a year ago while in Tortola after I ran into Collin Marshall. I have known Collin for many years dating back to his time as a captain on the Swan 56 White Rhino, as that boat had one of our carbon rigs in it. Seeing a boat in the Annapolis show last year, and knowing Collin, had me excited to collaborate.
One of the projects that we’re working with you on is the new furling booms for the Kinetic Catamarans KC54. Can you tell us a little more around this project and why the furling boom is beneficial?
Our furling booms are push-button electric solutions which are ideal for easy stowage of the mainsail. On the Kinetic Catamarans KC54 this is a very nice feature as it allows the main to be stowed without having to send someone up on the coach roof to tie down and flake the sail. The booms are fully carbon construction which means they are lightweight.
